1986 Grey Stallion

From 1991 to 1999, LAS Karras, or Pohono to his friend and admirers, was the subject of numerous newspaper articles as he and his owner Jeff Deval made a long journey trekking from Nevada, through Utah, across the Grand Canyon and eventually to central Mexico. Duval, with Pohono, and an Arabian mare named "Kiki" (TR Kristamir) often lived off the land with no civilization for miles. After completing his mission of starting a school in Mexico, Deval, Pohono and Kiki walked back to Arizona to settle in the White Mountains. Later, Pohono and Kiki were let run free with a band of horses. We were lucky to obtain Pohono and Kiki in the fall of 2003 when that band was to be rounded up and removed. Living on the range had been tough on him, and his weight had dropped to 700 pounds.

With time and rehabilitation, Pohono built back his stregth and fitness. Jim started him in endurance races, and together they completed 1,250 miles in 2006, earning Pohono the Jim Jones Stallion Award.

He is a race bred stallion, who has proved his ability to take care of himself and his rider time and again. He has the build, common sense and ruggedness prized for endurance, trail or the family horse.

Pohono is standing to a limited number of mares this season. Call for details.

Pohono enjoys a well deserved snack with Jim.
